The Restos du Cœur are launching their 38th campaign on Tuesday in a difficult social climate marked by inflation. The number of beneficiaries has increased by 12% since April. However, this is not the case for the number of French people living below the poverty line, according to the most recent data. But what is the poverty line?

9 million French people below the poverty line

According to INSEE, a French person is considered poor if their income is less than 1,128 euros per month. This sum corresponds to 60% of the median standard of living. It is 1,880 euros per month. Half of the French live on less, the other half on more. This poverty line changes according to the family situation. For example, for a family with two children under 14, it is set at 2,369 euros per month.

France has 9 million people living below the poverty line, which represents 14.6% of the population, according to INSEE. There is therefore more than one in ten French people who live below the poverty line. This proportion has been fairly stable for ten years.
