The abolition of marginal prices in the electricity market will improve the situation – Ministry of Energy

Thanks to the abolition of marginal prices in the electricity market (price caps – ed.), it will be possible to keep the energy industry and improve the situation on the market.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Farid Safarov.

According to him, recently the Government was forced to increase the tariff for electricity for the population, since there is a large shortage of working capital in the industry.

Safarov stressed that two state-owned companies, namely Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo, are suffering from this, and in order to maintain their stable operation, the electricity tariff had to be increased.

Another thing that will allow, let’s say, to keep the energy industry and the energy market, is the recent decision of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission to abolish price caps, that is, the marginal pricing of the cost of electricity. This should create a more optimistic situation in our market. “, – said the deputy minister.

Recall that on May 31, NEURC lifted price restrictions on the electricity market from June 30, 2023.

Also, the head of the parliamentary committee on energy, Andriy Gerus, said that the increase in boundary prices in the electricity market during peak hours of electricity consumption would balance the situation in the electricity market.
