The International Monetary Fund cuts Italy’s GDP estimates for 2023 and 2024 as part of the general slowdown in the global economy and in particular the European one. For the current year, the fund, in its World Economic Outlook presented in Marrakech, sees growth of 0.7%, with a cut of 0.4 compared to the July forecasts, when the forecasts had instead been corrected upwards. for 2024 our country will grow by 0.7%, with a reduction of 0.2 compared to previous estimates.

Global economic growth slows in 2023-2024

The growth of the world economy is slowing down in 2023 and will decline further next year, with a slowdown affecting developed countries more and emerging countries less. In its World Economic Outlook presented at the annual meeting in Marrakech, the Fund expects global GDP to grow by 3% from 3.5% in 2022 to reach +2.9% in 2024 (the previous estimate was +3%) . Among the causes of the slowdown, the report indicates the war in Ukraine, the growing fragmentation of the economy and some more cyclical ones such as the anti-inflation monetary tightening, the withdrawal of public aid and extreme climate events.
