Labor demand among Ukrainians has grown by 90% compared to last year.

“Today” told about this Tomasz Bogdewicz, CEO of international employment company Gremi Personal

“This is due to the fact that the Polish economy is actively recovering from the pandemic and compensating for the losses. Now the economy is showing the highest GDP growth in history – by 11,1% per year, according to the Main Department of Statistics in Poland, “- says the expert.

The activity of industrial companies in hiring new workers is also high. Although the number of legally working labor migrants from Ukraine in Poland is a record one, there are still not enough workers.

In what industries are Ukrainians needed

Workers are needed for manufacturing enterprises – food and processing industry, production of plastic products, logistics centers, warehouses, construction. These are the sectors of the economy where about 80% of Ukrainians in Poland work.

Resumed work this year hotels and restaurants whereas in the past, hotels were closed most of the time and restaurants were open to take-out. These industries faced a shortage of personnel, as people retrained and began to work in other areas.

Now there is a lot of work for Ukrainians in logistics… Poland is a large logistics center in Europe, which is attracting more and more companies to locate their business.

What is the reason for the “boom in demand” for logistics?

The boom in demand in logistics and e-commerce for workers was at the beginning of the pandemic in March-April 2020. This was due to the fact that people began to buy more online and at the same time there was a shortage of personnel due to restrictions on crossing the border and the need to go through quarantine, which extended the waiting time for the employee.

In 2021, this trend continues – since September, they have been recruited to work in logistics during the holiday period. The growth of vacancies increased by 40%. Only Amazon during this period additionally announced the need to employ 9 thousand… seasonal workers.

“For Ukrainian labor migrants, this is a good opportunity to earn money, especially for the New Year holidays. Such work does not require knowledge of the Polish language and experience, as well as to work at most Polish enterprises, which require physical labor,” concluded Tomasz Bogdevich.

Changes after the New Year

Since the New Year in Poland, the minimum hourly wage rate has been raised. Therefore, on average, Ukrainians will earn 2 thousand UAH more in Poland.

Now at Polish factories and factories, Ukrainian workers are paid 25-40 thousand hryvnia and more.

“Whether Ukrainians will continue to choose Poland as a country of labor migration will depend on whether Poland’s western neighbors will simplify the employment process and offer higher salaries,” – says Bogdevich.
