Energy: Cgia, SMEs pay electricity + 75% and gas + 133% of the large companies

(ANSA) – VENICE, 15 JANUARY – Small companies pay 75.6% for electricity and 133.5% more for gas than large ones. dimensions present in the rest of Europe, although in other countries this gap is smaller than ours. The CGIA notes this based on Eurostat data relating to the 1st half. 2021. This is a further demonstration that Italy is not suitable for small businesses which are 99% of the companies and employ 60% of the private sector employees and are the characterizing component of Made in Italy in the world. But they continue to be unjustifiably discriminated against. Many of these companies have decided, in the last week, to introduce or strengthen the night shift to reduce energy costs. To reduce the costs of electricity and gas bills, the Government has developed a series of interventions that came into force in the second half of 2021, for a total amount of 8.5 billion euros, but the small ones are more penalized.

In Italy, energy costs for SMEs are among the highest. Among all the countries of the euro area, only compared to Germany do our companies pay less (by 12.6%). Compared to the EU average, however, our small entrepreneurs pay on average 15% more. With regard to the cost of gas, on the other hand, they are in third place (after Finland and Portugal) for the highest tariff (+ 7.6%). Together with the trend in the cost of raw materials, in Italy the tax component is the other item that contributes significantly to raising the cost of tariffs. In the first half of 2021, for the electricity bill, for example, with reference to SMEs, 40.7% of the total cost is for taxes and charges (Euro Area average 35.7%). For gas, on the other hand, if in Italy the percentage incidence of taxation on the total cost borne by SMEs is 27%, in the euro area it stands at 25%.

But following the measures implemented by the Draghi government, the incidence of the tax burden on the overall cost of energy tariffs has slightly decreased. (HANDLE).
