(ANSA) – ROME, JANUARY 28 – The metaverse? It seems future but it is topical. The Blackrock funds giant, already a forerunner for investments in sustainable finance is now aiming at the last frontier of digital with a letter to investors signed by Nigel Bolton, Co-Chief Investment Officer of BlackRock Fundamental Equities, analyzes it.

“The metaverse is very similar to the internet of the early 1990s or the smartphone of the early 2000s. We know it will have a big impact and change people’s daily lives”, a passage that has “significant implications for investors” underlining that ” even though it won’t become the mainstream until the end of this decade – investment opportunities are here and now.

Blackrock sees AR (virtual reality) glasses as a “key turning point”, “objects that are light and smart enough to be worn every day – perhaps as early as the end of 2022”.

“Fashion brands are already selling virtual clothes and shoes in virtual worlds, so that consumers can dress up their characters online (aka avatar). A luxury digital bag was recently sold for $ 4,000, online dating companies they are launching VR worlds for “singles” and, of course, big brands are advertising on virtual worlds and gaming sites.

“Brands that invested heavily in e-commerce when their peers hadn’t yet are now expanding their market leadership,” Bolton concludes. “We will look for similar investments in the metaverse.” (HANDLE).
