The most expensive Dior heeled sneakers for 41 thousand UAH stand nervously on the sidelines when it comes to an American photographer Robness, who sold a trash can NFT GIF for $250,000 (UAH 6.9 million). The man created the image a couple of years ago by downloading the image from the Internet and applying a couple of effects to it, Mashable said.
A piece of art called 64 Gallon Toter was uploaded a couple of years ago, but then it was removed from the SuperRare platform for violating the copyrights of another company. And after 2 years, the NFT GIF was restored. SuperRare sent an email to the artist saying they didn’t consider his work as art at first. Then, when NFTs became popular, the attitude towards the author’s work also changed.
Later, the trash can NFT GIF became a meme and continues to motivate users to create thousands of copies of it. Therefore, interest in the original has also increased.
I got a call from a collector who wanted to know more about the history behind the GIF. We talked for about 30-45 minutes, I told him everything, and most of the time he was laughing. After that, the collector wanted to buy NFT, I named the price – and that’s it.
— said the author of the gif.
Gif rated in 250 thousand dollars (almost 7 million UAH), and its sale to NFT had a significant impact on the life of the author. Once he lived in a car and was interrupted by odd jobs. And now Robness has published more than 144 lots on the SuperRare platform, 113 of which have already been sold.
