Due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine, Jamala and her children had to leave the country. The singer went to relatives in Turkey, her husband Seit-Bekir remained in Kyiv. Recently, Jamala went for a walk with her sons for the first time in three months. All because of the artist’s busy schedule. This time the winner of “Eurovision-2016” was invited to take part in the International Festival of Creativity “Cannes Lions”. Jamala flew to France from Spain, where she supported the rights of the LGBT community. In Cannes, the Ukrainian star discussed how the creative industry works in the conditions of the Russian invasion .
For me personally, it was an opportunity to appeal to the most powerful creators of the world – so that they continue to raise the topic of war through music, videos, images, collaborations, events, publications … Every day, attention to it (ed. – war) is weakening. And only skillful storytelling can fix the situation,” Jamala noted on her Instagram.

In front of the festival participants, the Ukrainian singer could hardly hold back her tears. The Eurovision star admitted that everything has changed dramatically since the start of a full-scale war.
Since February 2022, there is no place for music in my life. About 20 countries, hundreds of interviews. But all this is not about my music. This is about my life, home and Ukraine,” Jamala said from the stage of the Cannes Palace of Festivals and Congresses.

Jamala also mentioned the tragic deportation for the Crimean Tatar people in 1944. And drew analogies with current realities. The singer completed her performance with an a cappella performance of the song with which she won the Eurovision Song Contest.
