Latvian singer unable to hold a musical event off the coast of the Baltic Sea from 2020

The full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine caused the cancellation of almost all cultural events in the country. One of the largest music festivals in Eastern Europe, Atlas Festival, which is held in Kyiv, announced in early June: it will not be held in the usual format. However, the organizers announced the online broadcast of the festival on July 10 on YouTube.

However due to the COVID-19 pandemic the music festival by the Baltic Sea did not take place in 2020-2021. The Vaikule team was preparing for a grand comeback this summer. The festival was supposed to take place from 29 to 31 July. But, according to the producers, they still cannot hold it now. The reason is the war in Ukraine. This became known on the Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala website.
The war in Ukraine is still going on, and this creates conditions that do not allow for the full implementation of the festival program. We would like to clarify that the members of the group accompanying Laima Vaikule are mainly live outside Latvia. Taking into account the current situation, as well as the decisions taken by the relevant authorities of Latvia and other countries regarding Russian invasion of Ukraineto ensure the arrival of the performers of the accompanying group in Latvia at the present time is actually not possible, – organizers said in a statement.
The producers of the Laima Vaikule festival also added that it would be “it is unethical to hold the festival at a time when there is war and tragedy nearby”. In addition, due to current political decisions, it is not possible to ensure the entry to Latvia of many artists and staff involved in the festival.
