(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, OCTOBER 29 – A look at gender violence, on the ferocity of Femicide in an excursus that crosses the 1900s to get to the most recent chronicles.

Giovanni Coda returns to the set, between November and December, for the shooting of the new film, “The bride in the wind”. The casting is underway.

The Cagliari director’s gaze rests on a current theme, “the result of a male-dominated culture, of an imbalance of power between genres” and which is useful to talk about “, underlines Francesco Montini of the Movie Factory Rome that produces the film. it will be released in spring 2022. It is the last chapter of the trilogy on gender-based violence, coming after the award-winning “Il Rosa Nudo”, on the Nazi persecution against homosexuals and “Bullied To Death”, on homophobic cyberbullying.

“A militant cinema with an author’s eye on civil rights issues where experimentation and documentary research coexist and the languages of cinema, photography, music, dance, visual art intertwine”, underlined Nevina Satta, director of the Sardegna Film Commission who supports the project. “A hard, powerful and transversal story – explains Coda – is inspired by many stories of women of different cultures and origins united by a message of denunciation and at the same time of hope”. From Antonia Mesina, the young woman from Orgosolo killed while opposing an attempt of sexual violence and beatified in 1987 by John Paul II, to the many stories of Sardinian and Italian women “wounded, enslaved, tortured, raped, killed – physically, medically, socially – by men but also and above all by a blind society, closed in schematisms of power. Feminicide is a pandemic. In Italy every 48 hours, a woman is killed “, adds Coda who sets the story in a near future and a date symbolic: November 25, 2022.

Fragments of real life are intertwined with the testimonies of great women such as Tina Modotti, Gerda Taro, Diane Arbus, Francesca Woodman and Frida Khalo. From Orgosolo the set moves to all the Sardinian provinces, Quartu Sant’Elena, Carbonia, Montiferru between the stages. “A ‘cinephotographic’ film – announces Coda -, the synthesis of ten years of visual research and experimental cinema”.
