Tv: Villeneuve & Pironi, the Sky docu on two Formula1 legends

(ANSA) – ROME, NOVEMBER 05 – Sky announces the details of a documentary film, soon to be released, focused on the compelling and tragic story of two Formula 1 legends, as well as historical rivals, Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi. The project is realized by Noah Media Group for Sky Studios and Sky Italia. Two extremely skilled Formula 1 drivers, united by their passion for speed and determination to win, but irreparably divided by a historical and controversial episode between the two.

Through extraordinary archival footage and exclusive family interviews, the documentary will explore the fascinating lives, careers and theatrical rivalry between the two icons of Formula 1 and Ferrari. Two generations have agreed to make their own contribution to the film: the sons of Gilles Melanie Villeneuve and Jacques Villeneuve, the latter former Formula 1 world champion, and the sons of Didier who bear the names of the two drivers, Gilles and Didier Pironi. Fundamental contributions will be given by the pilots’ companions, Gilles Joann Villeneuve’s wife and Didier’s partner Catherine Goux. The film will also feature some of the biggest names in Formula 1, Joann Villeneuve, wife of Gilles, said: “That period and those events were traumatic for our family and, more than 40 years later they are still able to arouse strong emotions. As a privileged witness, as I have been, it is important for me that this story is told with the respect it deserves “. Catherine Goux, partner of Didier Pironi, added: “My children and I are delighted to participate in this film together with the Villeneuve family. We are eager to let the world know what incredible men Gilles and Didier were.” Filming is underway and the release is scheduled for late 2022. Locations chosen include the UK, Canada, France and Italy. The film will be directed by Torquil Jones and produced by John McKenna alongside former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber. It will premiere on Sky Documentaries in the UK, Italy and Germany. NBC Universal Global Distribution will have international distribution in the other territories. (HANDLE).
