The worst person in the world, Oscar-winning Nordic irony

(by Francesco Gallo) (ANSA) – ROME, NOV 08 – THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD (Julie en 12 chapitres), already in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and now in cinemas from November 18 with Teodora, is a film that moves on many floors and as many theaters, twelve as the original title recalls. Written by Norwegian director Joachim Trier, it starts out as a funny, brilliant and widely spoken comedy that remotely recalls those of Woody Allen, but then comes the long shadow of death and suffering. The protagonist is Julie (Renate Reinsve, best actress in Cannes), a thirty-year-old enlightened bourgeois full of insecurities and changes in the face, a sort of Zelig who falls in love each time with a different job or man. In short, as the actress says today in Rome, “Julie is a woman who cannot find her place in the world and who sometimes thinks she is the baddest”.

First she studies medicine with great passion, then she realizes that she is not really interested in the body, but in the mind and so she starts studying psychology. But it does not end there, the next step is to be a photographer, an activity in which to really realize oneself. For the men she finds herself loving it is no different. While he thinks he has found some stability with Aksel (Herbert Nordrum), the 45-year-old successful comic book author, he meets, after a while, the young and handsome Eivind (Anders Danielsen Lie) and leaves Aksel for him.

“Yes, it is a film about love and time about passing time and therefore it is also a film about maturity” says Renate Reinsve, in Italy to promote the film.

For her, it might not end here: The Guardian gives the film five stars and leads the chorus of favorable reviews from the international press, while Variety places this work in pole position in the race for the Oscar for Best International Film. Many international media then see her as a possible candidate for the Academy as Best Actress. (HANDLE).
