Photographer Mick Rock has died at the age of 72 as announced on his official Twitter account in which he is defined as a “mythical creature” who was “impossible not to love, once known”.

Michael David Rock (this is his name at the registry office) – recalled Variety – had already started photographing local concerts while he was attending college in Cambridge. He produced and directed the music videos for Bowie’s “Space Oddity”, “Jean Genie” and “John, I’m Only Dancing”.

Other artists he has photographed include the Misfits, Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, the Killers, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Queens of the Stone Age, Daft Punk, Black Keys, Hall & Oates and the MGMTs.
