Manuscripts, works of literature with relative translations, texts of fiction, criticism, theaters, essays. And also correspondence and photographs. This is what was donated by the Claudio Magris Fund to the Gabinetto Vieusseux in Florence. A donation that, symbolically, was made in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, in the presence of the mayor Dario Nardella. The Writer’s Fund also contains all his works, with their translations.
“Having thought of Florence for the donation of its archive is a great and very welcome gift for the city – commented Nardella -. From today we feel it even more, and forever, linked to our community. Magris was one of the most important representatives authoritative of that ‘Trieste line’ of writers and intellectuals who had a privileged and continuous relationship with our city during the twentieth century “. “Magris – he added – is considered one of the greatest intellectuals of the twentieth century, author of novels and essays that are real jewels, distinguished Germanist, intellectual of extraordinary culture and ethical caliber, man of letters of great humanity and sensitivity, capable of dealing with depth and balance very delicate issues, a lucid man and an authoritative guide who, even to joke a little, I would see well in a Quirinale as an ideal candidate to lead a refoundation, a change in the ethical, progressive sense of our country “. “Magris – makes it known from the Vieusseux Cabinet – has always expressed his desire to allocate his archive to Florence, with which there is a special bond” also with Vieusseux: “Our archive, which has a beautiful tradition of important collections and prestigious, now it is enriched with great works “.
