The origins of the next James Bond don’t matter to the Crazy Rich Asian director

Daniel Craig is bowing out after 15 years as James Bond. The British actor last played the secret agent in To die can wait. And for a lot of viewers, this is the best iteration of the character. From now on, the production must find the ideal successor to the actor. A difficult task as the castings are due to start from 2022. But by then, everyone is going to agree about the perfect choice to don the costume of the most famous secret agent. Several names are regularly discussed by fans: Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill or Idris Elba. Some even wish that the next actor not be white to bring more diversity to the franchise.

The man believes that the skin color of the next James Bond does not matter.

James Bond can have any skin color

Rumors about the next James Bond have already been swarming for years on the web. And some wish that the secret agent is not necessarily white, bringing diversity to the character. But for Henry Golding, if this option is very positive, it is not necessarily a necessity. The director of Crazy Rich Asian, sometimes cited as a possible franchisee, shares his opinion during an interview for RadioTimes.

It shouldn’t be a factor at all. I think James Bond represents something that we all grew up with. That is to say a man of substances, a man of stoic, protective and sensitive properties. So having to diversify it is a good thing, but I think you have to do justice to the original material. He’s such an iconic character so I wouldn’t say there has to be any pressure.

And for the recovery of James Bond, Henry Golding does not worry.

I think they will choose the right person for this role. Whether black, Asian, Latino, mixed race … Anything, as long as it has the necessary attributes. I think that’s what the fans want.

A nuanced position on the part of the director.
