‘I Giganti’ by Angius wins the Elio Petri prize

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 06 DEC – ‘The Giants’ by Bonifacio Angius won the third edition of the Elio Petri Prize, awarded every year by the Porretta Terme (Bologna) Film Festival to a contemporary work “in which it is evident, but not necessarily explicit, the legacy of Petri’s authorial legacy, with themes of social and political denunciation in line with his cinema, as well as an original use of cinematographic language “. ‘The Giants’, chosen from among the six selected works, is “an extreme film, both realistic and visionary. A film that tells of dreams that have not come true, and of a reality from which one would escape without succeeding. A film that tells about addictions that, even before substances, involve people’s minds, their lives, their relationships “, explains the jury’s motivation, chaired by Walter Veltroni. The film, starring Bonifacio Angius, Stefano Deffenu, Michele Manca, Riccardo Bombagi, Stefano Manca, is “a reunion between old friends. A lost house in a valley forgotten by the world. Many memories, lead, and love stories from ‘ abyss. A ruthless criticism of male chauvinism in all its forms “. The award was created to pay homage to Elio Petri on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birth, in consideration of the special relationship that linked the director to the Porretta Free Cinema Festival, where in ’71 together with Gian Maria Volonté he presented the world premiere of ‘The class worker goes to heaven ‘, then awarded the Palme d’Or in Cannes. The ceremony is scheduled at the Kursaal cinema on 11 December, when the Elio Petri Lifetime Achievement Award will also be awarded to Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron, whose debut film, ‘Sólo con tu pareja’, opened the 2021 edition of the Festival by Porretta.
