Actually he had talked about it to Riccardo Muti, who indicated me as a composer. It is a work in eight movements. The verses, although inspired by Jacopone da Todi’s ‘Lauda’, are very intense. The writing – he adds – is visionary, feverish, and is entirely in Sicilian even archaic. I have looked for different forms of vocality ranging from the incredible voice of Raffaele For example the theremin, up to a certain use of percussion. I move between the ritual and the many aspects, or levels, of a pain, avoiding any form of folklore “. (HANDLE).
