The difficult path, understanding modern society

(ANSA) – MILAN, 10 DEC – In a complex society in which people increasingly see moral principles vanish and their economic and social condition worsen, journalist and teacher Franz Foti decides to take the difficult path of counter-analysis and without giving anyone discounts, he tackles the ganglia of problems on several levels. In ‘The barriers of democracy’, subtitle Power, politics and people, the author lies where the nerve hurts. “Every political action implies a plan of consensus and subdivision to occupy seats aimed at managing power” he writes, for example, bitterly. But the volume, published by FrancoAngeli in the Sociology section (143 pp, 19 euros), does not choose the path of ethical reprobation, but rather that of study and deepening to arrive, with reasoning, to clarify the reasons that block the exercise of the sovereignty of the people together with the distortions of political power and the “unstoppable dominance of the party system”. The treatment modality is also original. On the one hand, the theme of the democracy of the Heads of State, with their inspiring principles based on the general interest, the common good, the defense of the dignity of the person and the essential needs of citizens. On the other hand, the governmental and parliamentary realities that – Foti points out – have disregarded them for decades. Finally, the book closes with a reflection between capitalism and socialism that opens a debate between the anti-European right, anachronistic and not very supportive and a flat left, with a bourgeois vocation, irrelevant.
