Unique system of symbols used in arts and crafts The Crimean Tatar ornament “Ornek” was officially included in the UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage List… And, speaking of ornaments, do not forget to check out the most extraordinary national costumes at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant.
“Орнек” (Example) – the system of symbols and their meanings, which is used today in embroidery, weaving, pottery, engraving, jewelry, woodcarving, glass and wall painting. The symbols are arranged in such a way that they ultimately create a narrative composition. The Crimean Tatar communities are well versed in them, therefore they often instruct the masters to create some kind of compositions with a certain content.
When creating the symbolism of floral ornament, they always emphasize the unique color scheme and combination of symbols. For example, a tulip with a rose symbolizes a love relationship, a man and a woman. There are many symbols that are used as amulets. Special knowledge and skills of the master are passed on from generation to generation, as well as in communities – in lessons in schools and couples in universities.
It is important to note that Ornek became the fourth element of Ukrainian culture to be given this status.… Previously in the UNESCO list appeared: Petrikov painting, Cossack songs of the Dnieper region and Kosovian painted ceramics.
