Christmas: Mazara del Vallo, nativity scene in the boat in the Cathedral

(ANSA) – MAZARA DEL VALLO, DEC 27 – The nativity scene in the Cathedral of Ss Salvatore in Mazara del Vallo is a singular one, as part of the sixth edition of the nativity scene exhibition organized by the parish community. The Nativity was set up in a boat arranged vertically right next to the balustrade. It is a 5.60 meter vessel, weighing 1,300 kg, which was used until a few months ago for coastal fishing. It was donated by the “Calogero Sacco” shipyard and it was placed inside the Cathedral thanks to the commitment of the Perrone and Marino companies.

The Child Jesus, the Madonna and St. Joseph were placed on the boat. “The boat, in this historical moment, represents suffering humanity”, said the parish priest of the Cathedral Fr Edoardo Bonacasa.

All the schools of the city and associations collaborate in the sixth edition of the crib exhibition. In all there are 21 cribs set up in the Cathedral, in the church of San Giuseppe and at the “Giusti di Sicilia” Center, on the ground floor of the Episcopal Seminary. During the exhibition – open until January 6 – both the students of the city institutes and the associations donated goods (diapers, food, clothing) for children 0-3 years old. (HANDLE).
