Covid, May cancels 4/1 concert with Mehta

(ANSA) – FLORENCE, 02 JAN – The Teatro del Maggio has decided to cancel the concert of the last January 4 of the ‘Beethoven Cycle’ and which Zubin Mehta would have conducted. The theater, unlike a previous communication, announces the cancellation this afternoon, explaining that it “took note of the increase in precautionary quarantines and infections” and therefore “decided to do so” with the cancellation. The Maggio will identify a date for the recovery of the concert. In the hall program, Zubin Mehta, at the helm of the Choir and Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, would have conducted the last concert of the ‘Beethoven Cycle’, which is also the first symphonic appointment of the theater in 2022, with the Symphony n. 8 in F major op. 93 and the Symphony n. 9 in D minor op. 125 for solos, choir and orchestra. Soloists at his side, for the Ninth, the soprano Mandy Fredrich, the mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis, the tenor AJ Glueckert and the bass Franz-Josef Selig.
