We live in the era of tokens and metaversewhere everyone in the world with Internet access can buy virtual clothes, digital versions of luxury goods, art, food and even get married. As previously anticipated, the first disputes over the ownership of such items have already emerged.

So, MetaBirkins NFTs project was launched in November 2021, within the framework of which digital versions of the iconic Hermès bag appeared on sale. It turned out that they were created without the consent of the fashion house. This is reported by The Fashion Law.

Artist Mason Rothschild worked on the project. He created his first virtual Birkin bag in May 2021 with artist Eric Ramirez. At the same time, almost all the world’s key publications and fashion bloggers wrote about the collaboration and the modernity of the Hermès project. The first bag was sold for $ 47,000.

Following the success of the first bag, Mason created the whole collection of MetaBirkins, which includes 100 bags… Interestingly, their color palette surpasses Birkin’s range of boutiques.

It is reported that the artist managed to earn $ 1.1 million on the sale of NFT bags.

The scandal began to escalate a little later. It became known that Hermés approached the artist with a request to stop copying their products and make money from it. Rothschild posted a message from top management on his Instagram.

The artist claims that his NFTs are protected from Hermés lawsuits, and he also said that such powerful companies could help young artists, and not vice versa.
