Barracco Museum, Roman domus reopens after 20 years

(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 05 – Guided by light, to explore the long-hidden spaces of a 4th century AD domus with smartphones in hand and thus meet, observing columns, marble floors, fountains and an extraordinarily preserved weight table, the ancient world of the Roman-Imperial era through a highly technological museum experience: at the Giovanni Barracco Museum in Rome, in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, starting from 6 January, after more than 20 years of closure, the Roman house located in the basement will reopen, in 4 meters deep, and can be visited in an innovative way thanks to the experimental project Li-Fi, acronym of Light Fidelity, whose wireless technology will also allow the public to explore a selection of pieces from the permanent collection of ancient statues. The project, promoted by Roma Culture, the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage and presented by the companies To Be Srl, DB Ingegneria Immagine Srl and Tecno Electric Srl with the support of the European Union, was created to make use easier and facilitate understanding. of the works on display: the experimentation, scheduled until February, will involve 14 points of interest in the museum itinerary, of which 9 in the rooms on the ground floor and on the first floor and 5 in the Roman House (which will be extraordinarily open every day, except Mondays, until 9 January and, subsequently, until the end of February, only on weekends). Li-Fi technology, exploiting the use of LED light to transmit data to smartphones or tablets, combines the ecological transition with the digital one, thanks to low energy consumption and increased connectivity, and allows use even for visually impaired people or blind, with the use of audio tracks. Along the way, the visitor will simply have to download the system app, place the smartphone under the spotlight beam and wait for the information to arrive. (HANDLE).
