The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture announced on Sunday that it had taken new measures to combat the upsurge in the Covid-19 epidemic, including the ban on all alcohol consumption on public roads. “After consultation with the local executives and the health authorities of the department, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes decided today to strengthen the obligation to wear a mask and to prohibit the consumption of alcohol and the distribution of amplified music on the public road “, explains the prefecture in a press release.
“Proportionate and adapted”
Wearing a mask thus becomes compulsory in a large part of public space, with the exception of natural spaces, urban green spaces, beaches and bodies of water. The consumption of alcoholic drinks is banned from the public highway, as is the music amplified in this space and on the terraces of establishments open to the public. These measures, in force until August 16, are “proportionate and appropriate”, assures the prefecture. They aim to curb the epidemic, while the health indicators of the department are, she said, “extremely worrying”, with an incidence rate on July 24 which reached 407 per 100,000 inhabitants in the department, when the threshold alert is set at 50 per 100,000.
