Myopia: fighting the disease directly in schools

Result, among the 5,000 students who benefited from the device, 78% needed glasses or rehabilitation. Europe 1 visited during a screening session for visual disturbances in a college in Aubervilliers in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Support students

In this class converted into an ophthalmologist’s office, the 5th graders follow one another. Problem, some have never done an eye test. During her visit, Isabelle, an orthoptist, notices a problem with a student. “You see a little double”, notes the specialist with the schoolgirl. A slight strabismus that can be fixed with rehabilitation sessions. But sometimes the eye exam reveals more disabling disorders.

“Everything that is rather small, so the writing on the board, you can’t see it well”, questions Isabelle. “I always ask my friends for the word that is written on the board,” replies the young student. Which means that this schoolgirl can’t see beyond a meter, it’s blurry. “We will send her to the ophthalmologist and we will accompany her to the consultation and even to the optician so that she can get glasses that allow her to have good vision”, explains the specialist. The student will be able to see an ophthalmologist within a month. The consultation, and two pairs of glasses will be covered at 100%.
