US: S&P 500 tumbles amid escalating Ukraine war

O S&P 500which opened stable this Tuesday (1st), established a downward trajectory amid the intensification of attacks by the Russia Against the Ukraine.

Close to 1:10 pm, the index recorded losses of 0.73%, at 4,341.70 points.

O Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.46% to 13,688.76 points, while the Dow Jones was down 1.18%, to 33,493.48 points.

Today, new Russian attacks took place on Ukrainian territory. The government building in Kharkov, Ukraine’s second largest city, was hit by missiles. The information was confirmed by the Ukrainian operations command.

Oleg Synegubov, governor of the region, called the attacks a “genocide of the Ukrainian people”.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the offensives against Kharkov, saying that the Russian attacks are state terrorism.

Russian troops put more pressure on Kiev as they approach the Ukrainian capital.

Photos released by the US satellite company Maxar showed rows of Russian fuel tanks and trucks stretching 60 kilometers along a highway and reaching Kiev from the north.

The Russian army announced in the early afternoon that it would strike specific targets in Kiev. Russia has said it intends to attack the infrastructure of communications and security services in the region.

Recently, Russian forces bombed a television tower in Kiev.

The worsening of the war amplifies the upward trajectory of the prices of Petroleum. The commodity rose sharply on Tuesday, with WTI oil futures, due in April, and Brent crude, due in May, rising more than 7%.
