Elon Musk and Bolsonaro: Find out everything that happened at the businessman’s meeting with the Brazilian president

The president Jair Bolsonaro met the businessman Elon Musk this Friday (20th) in a luxury hotel in the countryside of Sao Paulo. During the meeting, which took place in the presence of businessmen and politicians, a partnership between the federal government and Starlink, a satellite company run by Musk.

During the meeting, Bolsonaro called Musk a “myth of freedom”.

“The most important thing about his presence is something that is immaterial. Nowadays, we could call it the myth of freedom. It is what we will need for anything we may think about in the future,” he said.

In the social mediathe South African businessman announced that his partnership with the Brazilian government should offer internet access to around 19,000 schools in rural areas, in addition to helping to preserve the Amazon rainforest by monitoring levels of deforestation and illegal fires.

“We intend, need and are counting on Elon Musk to make the amazon be known to all, in the Brazil and in the world. Show the exuberance of this region, how it is preserved by us and how much harm caused to us by those who spread lies about this region”, said Bolsonaro after the announcement of environmental monitoring by Starlink in the Amazon.

To date, the North region of the country does not have an internet service available from Starlink. It is not known for sure when the partnership will actually start or the amounts negotiated for it.

In Brazil, Starlink has been operating since January of this yearwith an annual value of around R$ 11,000 per year – a price well above the average compared to other internet supply companies that already operate in the national territory.

Among those present at the meeting were the Minister of Communications, Fábio Fariaand the president of the bank BTG Pactual, André Esteves. According to journalists, the meeting with Bolsonaro was not the main motivation for Musk to come to Brazil – who came to the country for commercial interests.
