the grinding of sugar cane in the first half of June in the Center-South region it reached 38.60 million tons, which represents an increase of 5.76% compared to the volume of the same period last year, when 36.50 million tons were processed. The information is from the Sugarcane Industry Union (Unica), in a biweekly survey, released this Tuesday, 28.

According to the entity, until June 16, 250 units operated compared to 254 units in the same period of the 2021/2022 cycle. “For the second half of June, another four units should start grinding in the Center-South”, highlights Unica, in a statement.

Information released by the Sugarcane Technology Center (CTC) indicates that 76.0 tons of cane per hectare were harvested in May 2022, which represents a 1.4% drop in agricultural yields compared to the same period in the harvest. 2021/2022 (77.1 tons per hectare).

The quality of the raw material harvested in the first 15 days of June, measured in kg of ATR per ton of sugarcane processed, showed a retraction of 5.37% compared to the same period of the last agricultural cycle, recording 131, 04 kg of ATR per ton harvested.

Sugar production in the first 15 days of June totaled 2.14 million tonnes, down 3.81% compared to the same period in 2021.

Unica’s Technical Director, Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, said in the note that “the drop in sugar production is due to two factors. The first refers to the lower availability of sugarcane until June 16, which explains the retraction of 1.20 million tons of the sweetener.

The second is the drop in the quality of the raw material and the change in the production mix as a result of the decision of the production units, which reduced the production of the product by an additional 1.03 million tons to enable greater production of ethanol”.

In the first half of June, 1.83 billion liters (+6.31%) of ethanol were manufactured. Of the total volume produced, hydrous reached 1.08 billion liters (+7.04%), while the production of anhydrous ethanol totaled 748.25 million liters (5.29%).

Of the total biofuel produced, production from corn in the first half of June it registered 176.55 million liters, compared to 123.64 million liters in the same period of the 2021/2022 cycle, an increase of 42.79%.
