Microsoft shareholders want disclosure of company’s global tax data

Investors with more than $350 billion in assets demanded that the Microsoft (MSFT) publish more transparent fiscal and financial information.

A shareholder resolution on tax transparency was presented to Microsoft ahead of its annual shareholders’ meeting, said Pensions & Investment Research Consultants (PIRC), a company that advises investors on voting and organizer of the action.

Investors such as Nordea, AkademikerPension and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund supported the resolution, PIRC said.

The resolution asks the company to publish financial and tax information for each country outside its domestic market in United Statesso that investors can assess whether the company is paying fair taxes and identify any risks posed by tax reforms.

Shareholders also ask Microsoft to produce a tax transparency report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative’s tax standard.

A similar resolution was also presented to tech giant Cisco, the PIRC said.

Microsoft and Cisco were not immediately available for comment.
