O Planalto Palace intends to ignore the return of the former president Jair Bolsonaro to the Brazilscheduled for Thursday morning, and the order is not to make comments or change any schedule due to the presence of the former president in Brasiliasaid sources interviewed by the Reuters.

Lula, who spent the last few days dispatching at the Alvorada Palace because of pneumonia, intends to go to Planalto on Thursday. Even with the Esplanada dos Ministérios closed by order of the Federal District security, to prevent the entry of possible demonstrators, Lula has an event scheduled in the morning, the reception of the women’s soccer world cup.

On leaving the Planalto Palace this Wednesday morning, the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, said that security was the responsibility of the Federal District government and the federal government hopes that security measures will be taken to prevent new problems. “But that doesn’t interfere with the president’s routine at all,” he said.

When asked how the government sees Bolsonaro’s return, Padilha stressed that the Planalto does not have any position on the matter.

“It is not up to the Planalto Palace to see the circulation of anyone who declares himself to be in opposition, much less a former president who fled the country,” he said.

Bolsonaro arrives in Brasilia on a commercial flight at 7:10 am, coming from Orlando, where he traveled on December 30 to avoid giving Lula the inauguration.

The PL, his party, organized a reception for deputies in an auditorium near its headquarters, but Bolsonaro is not expected to participate in large demonstrations. For security reasons, supporters must be prevented from waiting for the former president in the airport lounge.

According to one of the sources interviewed by the Reutersthe order in Planalto is to avoid giving space to Bolsonaro and, as far as possible, ignore possible actions by the former president.

“The point is to leave it talking to the bubble itself. When he says something very absurd, the government responds, but with the case of Moro, it has already been seen that it is best not to give a stage”, said the source.

Despite Planalto’s position, PT president, deputy Gleisi Hoffmann, recorded a video distributed on her networks sending “a message” to Bolsonaro, highlighting improvements made by the current government and calling the former president a genocide.

“You can come back whenever you want. What will never come back is the dark time when you made this country unhappy”, concludes Gleisi.
