The ore in the shoe of the stock exchange: What to expect from Vale shares, Nubank overdraft, turmoil at CVC and other highlights of the day

Walking with a stone in your shoe is such a discomfort that it even became a popular expression to represent an uncomfortable and annoying problem to solve.

In the case of the Brazilian stock exchange, we can say that the setback is not a stone, but an ore — or rather, an entire mining company.

Let’s see: since the lows of the year, in March, the Ibovespa engages in an increase of more than 12%. It looks good, but year-to-date the main B3 stock index is still practically at zero to zero.

One of the main factors responsible for this quagmire on the Ibovespa is Vale. Against the grain of the market and the recent upsurge of the stock exchange, the mining company’s shares have accumulated a drop of more than 25% in 2023.

As everything related to Vale involves huge figures, we are talking about a loss of just over BRL 100 billion in market value.

This drop ends up hampering the performance of the Ibovespa as a whole because the mining company’s shares have the greatest weight in the index.

As if the loss of value were not enough, Vale’s shareholders still had to face a significant cut in the first quarter’s dividends.

In today’s special report from Seu Dinheiro, reporter Ana Carolina Neira tells what made Vale turn the stone in the bag’s shoe. In addition, it is clear what to expect for the company’s shares and dividends.
