Former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmitry Razumkov commented on rumors about five bills related to de-escalation in Donbas. According to him, such proposals have not been submitted to the parliament lately.

He announced this on the air of the TV channel “Ukraine 24”.

“They should be developed theoretically after negotiations. The law on transitional justice, which was submitted to the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, was then withdrawn, we asked our colleagues, this was done at the initiative of the President’s Office. Why is this happening, or is this the position of the President’s Office, whether this is the position of international partners, or whether this is the position demanded by the Russian Federation”Razumkov said.

He noted that it was previously stated that these were just improvements, there are inaccuracies, but French President Emmanuel Macron said that this happened at the request of the Russian Federation as part of the Normandy format.

“It looks a little strange, you should always tell the truth, whatever it may be. I think it was much better perceived by society, partners, and including enemies”– summed up the ex-speaker of parliament.

Russian occupation of Donbass

  • In late winter and early spring 2014, the Russian army occupied Crimea. A little later, the Kremlin launched a hybrid war in the Donbass. Moscow continues to deny involvement, claiming there is a “civil war” in the Donbas. At the same time, the Kremlin regularly accuses Ukraine of “non-implementation” of the Minsk agreements.
  • In 2021, the Russian Federation in the spring and then in the fall accumulated troops on the borders of Ukraine. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, warned of a possible Russian invasion as early as early 2022. He also showed possible scenarios for the offensive of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine.
  • US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers accused Russia of non-implementation of agreements on Donbass.

We also recall that Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba called the main condition for de-escalation.

In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appreciated the degree of Putin’s openness.
