This is the goal of the “Metamorphosis” project promoted by the Casa dello Spirito e delle arti Foundation in Milan and implemented thanks to the collaboration with the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, the Director General of the Excise, Customs and Monopoly Agency, Marcello Minenna, and the Milan-Opera prison.

The initiative, commissioned by the Minister of the Interior, was made possible thanks to the coordination activity carried out by the prefect of Agrigento, Maria Rita Cocciufa, with the support of the Public Prosecutor of the City of Temples which issued the necessary clearance and allowed to the Customs Office of the Sicilian Channel to proceed with the identification and assignment of the wooden boats, for which the judicial authority had already ordered the destruction and disposal.

“The Customs and Monopoly Excise Agency has among its functions also the task of removing and disposing of boats used by migrants, sunk within 12 nautical miles or otherwise abandoned on the coasts and beaches of Italy – says Minenna – contributing to the project “Metamorphosis” constitutes for Adm a source of great pride and testimony of how the synergistic action of the State institutions can always constitute an added value, particularly when they support awareness-raising and solidarity initiatives “.
