(ANSA) – LECCO, MAR 16 – The pilots of the military plane, an M346, which crashed this morning on Mount Legnone, on the border between the provinces of Lecco, Sondrio and Bergamo, managed to launch themselves before the explosion caused by the impact and one of the pilots would have already been identified, with a parachute, on a natural rock balcony.
At least three aircraft and ground fire brigade teams are employed in the search for the second pilot.
The military jet that crashed this morning on the highest mountain in the province of Lecco, at an altitude of 2,609 meters, was an Alenia Aermacchi T-346A departed from the Venegono base (Varese).
Based on initial information, the aircraft was in the preliminary test phase for subsequent delivery to the commissioning armed force. The two pilots, who launched themselves before the impact, are both test drivers. (HANDLE).
