(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 24 – One in 5 people believe that their sexual orientation has disadvantaged them during their working life in terms of career advancement and professional growth, recognition and appreciation of their professional skills. On the other hand, the impression of a disadvantage with regard to the level of income is less widespread. Overall, 26% of employed or ex-employed people say that being homosexual or bisexual has represented a disadvantage during their working life. It emerges from the results of an Istat-Unar survey on employment discrimination against LGBT people in 2020-2021.
Also from the report it emerges that 1 in five people, employed or ex-employed in Italy, declares to have experienced a hostile climate or an aggression in their work environment, with a slightly higher incidence among women (21.5% against 20.4%), both lesbians and bisexuals, among young people (26.7%), foreigners or stateless persons (24.7%) and people living in the South (22.6%). 38.2% of people in civil union or already in union who defined themselves homosexual or bisexual have suffered at least one episode of discrimination in other life contexts for reasons related to their sexual orientation.
