Bad weather: Cinque Terre under the snow, suspended Sciacchetrail

War, in the thousands in Naples:

(ANSA) – LA SPEZIA, 02 APR – About two hours after the athletes’ departure, the Sciacchetrail 2022, an endurance race over 46 kilometers that takes place in the Cinque Terre, was suspended due to the snow that is whitening the heights of the coast La Spezia from this morning. It was impossible to guarantee the minimum safety conditions for the runners, about three hundred, who at 8am had left the Monterosso seafront, swept by rain and gale force winds, to begin the climb to Punta Mesco and then to Colle di Gritta, which reaches 300 meters of altitude. The path in the hills was affected by a heavy snowfall, such that the highest part of the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre – Monte Malpertuso, 750 meters above sea level – was no longer reachable by emergency vehicles. So the organizers, after an inspection carried out together with the Ligurian Alpine Rescue technicians, preferred to recall the runners, each equipped with GPS and thermal blanket as per regulation, who were invited to return to Monterosso. A joke considering that the race, which attracts participants from all over the world, was back after two years of stoppage caused by the pandemic. (HANDLE).
