Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord-2021: signs and superstitions

On September 27, the Orthodox celebrate the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord – this is one of the most revered church holidays, which is one of the 12 main events of the year.

The full name of the holiday is Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord
… It was erected in honor of the acquisition of one of the main Christian relics – the Cross of Christ, on which Jesus was previously crucified.

• According to popular observations, on the Exaltation there is a struggle between honor and evil spirits, and in order to protect themselves, people carried out religious processions around the villages

  helps to save households, huts, cattle and the harvested crop from harm.

• From the Exaltation to the Annunciation itself, on April 7, as the people said, the earth is “shifting”
