Appeal three organizations, support scientists at risk

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, APRIL 20 – “Supporting scientists at risk, migrants and refugees: a call to action”, urging universities, scientific academies, governments, groups of scientists, non-governmental and international organizations to sign the document. This is the appeal that will be launched this morning by three international organizations (two based in Trieste) The World Academy of Sciences (UNESCO-TWAS), InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and International Science Council (ISC) (based in Paris), with a declaration joint widespread with a live event (https: // scienceinexile.org/) for the Science in Exile initiative, which supports scientists fleeing countries in war and political instability.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in the world in 2021 there were more than 84 million people forced to leave their country, including many scientists, doctors, engineers, scholars with advanced technical training. People who are “an invaluable resource for the world scientific community, repositories of scientific knowledge, systems and data whose loss has serious consequences for the scientific world and for society as a whole”.
