(ANSA) – PALERMO, 22 MAY – The “Knowledge for Legality: Giovanni Falcone” award promoted by the Ministry of University and Research and the Giovanni Falcone Foundation is back. The new edition of the call will be launched tomorrow, Monday 23 May, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Capaci and Via D’Amelio massacres, during the ceremony to be held in Palermo, at the Foro Italico, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The award this year also extends to the artistic and musical sphere.
In fact, girls and boys who have obtained a II level academic qualification from an institution of higher artistic, musical and dance training (Afam) may also participate, as well as young people with a master’s degree or a PhD degree. . The announcement establishes 12 prizes dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Falcone for works that have as their object study and research activities on the phenomenon of organized crime of a mafia type. Italian universities also have 1 million euros available from the budget law and allocated to the new “Fund for the dissemination of culture and legality”. The objective is to encourage the realization of seminars and study activities and student initiatives to promote the culture of legality, the sharing of constitutional principles and the commitment against mafias and violence.
“We are all committed to networking the many initiatives that the world of universities and research has been promoting in the area for some time to spread the culture of legality: we must strengthen a system that can act ever more deeply”, said the minister of ‘University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa. “We have a potential ‘army’ of nearly 2 million female students who, with their activities, with their scientific research, can guide and spread a deeply rooted anti-mafia culture in the most varied areas of society.
