(ANSA) – COSENZA, MAY 26 – A series of contradictions emerged from the depositions made by some witnesses today in Cosenza, in the Assize Court, in the trial on the alleged murder of the Cosenza player Donato “Denis” Bergamini, who died on November 18 of 1989 in Roseto Capo Spulico, along the Ionic 106 state road. The death of Bergamini, originally from Argenta (Ferrara) and who was 26 years old at the time, was initially attributed to suicide, also on the basis of the testimony given by his ex-girlfriend who was with him, Isabella Internò. The young woman, in fact, reported that Bergamini voluntarily let himself be run over by a truck. Testimony supported by the fact that the player’s body was found under the heavy vehicle.

From the investigations carried out subsequently by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Castrovillari, directed at the time by Eugenio Facciolla, it emerged that Bergamini, in reality, would have been killed and that the murder would have taken place in a different place from the one where his body was found. . That of the suicide would have been, therefore, a staging, so much so that Isabella Internò was indicted on charges of voluntary homicide.

During today’s hearing the doctors Michele De Marco and Antonio Raimondi were heard, from whose depositions doubts emerged that Bergamini’s body was actually the subject of a regular external inspection, and the Carabinieri Marshal Nicola Carbone, at the time commander of the Trebisacce Station. The former Prosecutor of Castrovillari, urgently summoned by the president of the Assize Court, Paola Lucente, said that “the report of the external inspection of Bergamini’s body is not false. What I can say – he added – is that the inspection activity was carried out regularly “.

The lawyer Fabio Anselmo, defender of the civil party on behalf of the Bergamini family, described the deposition of the former Prosecutor Abbate as “embarrassing”. “A deposition – he said – in the name of ‘I don’t remember’ and ‘I don’t know how to explain myself'”.
