(ANSA) – BERGAMO, MAY 30 – Five children were burned this morning in a school in Osio Sotto (Bergamo) during the rehearsal of a school play: according to an initial reconstruction, the children were heating marshmallows, the sweet snacks that are roasted on the fire to make them caramelized. Rescue intervention immediately: three fathers were also injured. Five ambulances and firefighters arrived on the scene, as well as two helicopters for rescue from Brescia and Bergamo. Also present were the local police and the carabinieri of Dalmine and Treviglio.
The episode took place at 10.30 in the garden of the ‘San Zeno’ nursery school in via Montessori, where a meeting between families and teachers apparently was taking place. The children who were burned are part of the Blue section and have reported first and second degree burns: there are five in all, three females aged 3, 4 and 5 and two males aged 4 and 6.
Three fathers between the ages of 35 and 40 were also burned: they are not in serious condition. Burned children and parents were transferred to various hospitals in the area (ANSA).
