2 June: Giovinazzo remembers Lieutenant Piscitelli, a war hero

(ANSA) – BARI, MAY 31 – With a plaque to honor his memory, in the street dedicated to him, the city of Giovinazzo (Bari) pays a new tribute to the highly decorated Tenente Raffaele Piscitelli, shot, together with other officers, the first October 1943, at the age of only 22. The event will be held on the occasion of the national day of the Republic, June 2, with the unveiling of a toponymic plaque. Thursday’s ceremony will be the final act of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the war hero’s birth. The event will begin at 11 am, in the presence of the major institutions with the outgoing mayor Tommaso Depalma, the Giovinazzo Arma associations, the town band and the hero’s family members, represented by the president of the Piscitelli D’Agostino Family Foundation ‘. Born on 2 May 1921, Piscitelli was shot about 35 kilometers from Split. His body is now in the military shrine of the Lido of Venice. A classroom of the historic city high school and the street of the same name have already been named after him after Giovinazzo. (HANDLE).
