Syria: Mustafa and Munzir in Budrio, ‘trip’ before treatment

(ANSA) – BUDRIO, 01 JUN – Mustafa’s smile and the protective gaze of his father Munzir illuminated the square of the Municipality of Budrio, in the province of Bologna this morning. The 6-year-old Syrian child, born without limbs as a result of a malformation caused by the taking of drugs by the mother affected, during the war, also by nerve gas, and the father, without a leg lost due to a bomb, today they made contact with the town in the lower Bologna area where they will move at the end of September to follow the treatments at the Inail prosthesis center.

A sort of day trip from Siena, where the whole family, even the mother and the two little sisters, have been hosted by Caritas since January. The family arrived in Tuscany thanks to the power of a photograph, taken by the Turkish Mehmet Aslan, who portrayed the embrace between father and son, winning the Siena International Photo Awards 2021.

First the meeting with the mayor of Budrio Maurizio Mazzanti in the town council hall, then a tour of the puppet museum and lunch organized by the local Caritas in the town’s parish. “We are happy to be in Italy, we are fine and now we are concentrating on the care for Mustafa – said the father – but our thoughts continue to be directed to Syria, to the war, to the relatives and friends who remained there”.

The Inail prosthesis center is organizing to welcome them: “The first visit is scheduled for the end of September – explains Simona Amadesi, communication manager of the excellent structure – The multidisciplinary team will do everything possible to guarantee them the recovery of maximum autonomy” .
