Alpini: Ventimiglia-Trieste relay for 150 / o foundation

(ANSA) – BASSANO DEL GRAPPA (VICENZA), 01 JUN – It will be the Ventimiglia-Trieste relay, scheduled to start on 6 June and arrive on 2 July, one of the main events of the celebrations scheduled this year to celebrate 150 / o of Alpine Corps.

Twenty-three stages will bring the “Torch of Peace”, lit during the National Gathering of Trento in 2018, to cover the entire Alpine arc, entrusting it to hundreds of soldiers of the two Alpine Brigades Taurinense and Julia, in collaboration with the Ana sections of the territories along the way.

The event, presented today in a symbolic place, the Ponte degli Alpini in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza), will feature the runners of the Alpine troops of the Army and the National Alpine Association who will cover 1,500 kilometers in four weeks, with an itinerary which will connect the Maritime Alps to the Julian ones, with a “spin-off” on the Abruzzo Apennines. The Alpine Relay will touch the places of the origins of the Corps and will cross Alpine cities such as Turin, Cuneo, Ivrea (Turin), Biella, Aosta, Lecco, Como, Brescia, L’Aquila, Trento, Belluno and Udine, will pass through the headquarters of the departments of the Army troops, reaching mountains, monuments and memorials dear to all black feathers.

Nine special events aimed at the public, starting with Ventimiglia, where on Sunday an exhibition space on the Alpini and the mountains will be opened in the square, dedicated in particular to young people, with the performance in the city of the Fanfare of the Army’s Alpine Taurinense Brigade. Similar events will take place in Trieste, Bassano and Aosta.

The torch, passing as a witness from city to city, will represent a sign of hope and a symbol of cohesion and solidarity, under the banner of Alpine values ​​and commitment to the community expressed by Ana. General Ignazio Gamba, commander of the army corps of the Alpine Troops, and the president of the National Alpine Association, Sebastiano Favero, intervened this morning to present the relay on the bridge.
