(ANSA) – REGGIO EMILIA, JUNE 09 – Giuseppe Pagliani, former provincial and municipal councilor of Forza Italia and Pdl in Reggio Emilia, was definitively acquitted in the Cassation of the accusation of external competition in the mafia association. The local press reports.

The politician, a lawyer by profession, was arrested on 28 January 2015 as part of the ‘Aemilia’ operation against the Emilian ‘Ndrangheta clan. He spent three weeks in the cell before the Review released him. In the trial, he was acquitted in abbreviated form, in the first degree of trial. The prosecutor appealed and appealed where he was sentenced to 4 years. The defense – represented by the lawyer Alessandro Sivelli – then appealed to the Supreme Court where a new trial was ordered which then ended with the acquittal still challenged by the General Prosecutor of Appeal. Yesterday in Cassation the end of the judicial battle: inadmissible appeal. “I free myself from an insane burden – Pagliani told Reggio Emilia newspapers – and from an unprecedented personal and political attack in this province. If I had been on the left, I would never have suffered such a ridiculous accusation”. (HANDLE).
