‘Ndrangheta: exchange vote, 5 years to former Piedmont councilor

(ANSA) – ASTI, June 10 – The maxi Carminius trial against the alleged gangs of the ‘Ndrangheta in Carmagnola and in the southern belt of Turin has reached a sentence in court in Asti, with 29 defendants, including 13 for mafia association. The former regional councilor Roberto Rosso, defended by the lawyer Giorgio Piazzese, was sentenced to 5 years. For him the prosecutors Paolo Toso and Monica Abbatecola had asked for 11 years, the defense of his acquittal.

The crime alleged against Rosso consists in having asked for electoral support, paying 7,800 euros, to two alleged bosses, Onofrio Garcea and Francesco Viterbo, already convicted in the first instance, therefore with a Mafia political exchange voting method. At the time of the reading of the sentence, the former councilor was not present. He was also sentenced to compensate Brothers of Italy, civil party, for 75 thousand euros. (HANDLE).
