Migrants: ICS, over 100 million ‘forced’ in the world

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 14 JUN – From the data released by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) an “absolutely dramatic” figure emerges in 2022: the number of forced migrants in the world has exceeded, for the first time, the 100 million. The war in Ukraine weighs heavily on this figure, while other crises – starting with that of Afghanistan – are worsening. This was announced by the president of ICS (Italian Consortium of Solidarity) Gianfranco Schiavone, announcing that next Saturday is World Refugee Day.

On June 20, 1951, the Refugee Convention was approved by the United Nations General Assembly. To commemorate this event, World Refugee Day has been celebrated since 2001, the purpose of which is to draw attention to the right of asylum, guaranteed by international and European law, as well as by article 10 of the Italian Constitution.

Sabato Schiavone will present data and reflections on the Italian and European situation. (HANDLE).
