Vicentina turns a century, ‘I want to meet the mayor’

(ANSA) – VENICE, 15 JUN – “It would be an honor for me if you could be there on my 100th birthday, but please don’t arrive after 10.15 because I have to go out with my children and some relatives who come from Tuscany” .

This is the desire, expressed by Iris Roggi to the mayor of Vicenza Francesco Rucco, through the offices of Ipab in Vicenza.

A request that the mayor has fulfilled with great joy of the birthday girl, to whom this morning the mayor donated a bouquet of flowers.

Mrs. Iris, who arrived with her husband from Tuscany in Vicenza at the end of the 1950s, was an elementary school teacher, a profession that she had to interrupt because she was widowed from an early age, with seven children to look after, of which six were boys who grew up they are passionate about baseball.

Following their activity, the mother became part of the board of the local baseball team that at the time played in the A2 league, becoming its first female president in the 80s. She has been a guest of the “Salvi” retirement home for almost five years, and she has forged bonds and friendships with the other residents. (HANDLE).
