(ANSA) – ROME, June 27 – Six thousand people rescued at sea by Coast Guard vehicles in 2021. This is what we read in the annual report of the Corps presented today in the presence of the Minister of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility, Enrico Giovannini and of the commanding general, Admiral Nicola Carlone.
Overall, 1,529 events were coordinated in favor of all sea users: boaters (789 events), swimmers (324), divers (45), fishermen (24).
In 2021, 318 people in danger of life were rescued and saved with the sole aid of satellite technology, 306 of which in areas under Italian responsibility. Overall, thirty research and assistance operations were supported, of which 9 related to maritime rescue, 20 related to aeronautical accidents and one related to a terrestrial event.
The Coast Guard is present throughout the 8,000 km of national coast and on the major lakes, with 562 naval units of different sizes and types. This device guarantees, with a 24-hour service, search and rescue activities in the Italian SAR area, which corresponds to approximately one fifth of the entire Mediterranean. (HANDLE).
