(ANSA) – REGGIO CALABRIA, 18 JUL – Giuseppe Zimbalatti, 62, full professor of Agricultural Mechanics, is the new Rector of the “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria.

He takes over Santo Marcello Zimbone as rector holder, banned in April by the Reggio Calabria magistrate after his involvement in the investigation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with investigations delegated to the Guardia di Finanza, on alleged offenses in the competitions for banned researchers from the university.

The Vice Rector, Pasquale Catanoso, formerly Rector himself, and 6 other people including teachers and employees were also banned as part of the investigation.

After Zimbone’s interdiction, Professor Feliciantonio Costabile was appointed acting rector of the University of Reggio.

Zimbalatti was dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the same Mediterranean university and, before advancing his candidacy for rector, he was General Director. The new rector managed to prevail over the other two candidates for the office, Claudio De Capua, full professor of Information Engineering, Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy, and Nicola Moraci, of the Department of Civil, Energy and Environmental Engineering and materials.
